In spring 2013 SNAE moved its offices to a ground level storefront at the corner of North Avenue and Charles Street, adding much needed usable performance and gallery space to Station North. Known as the Station North Chicken Box, the temporary renovation of this space enabled SNAE to revive programs such as the Station North Art Market, provide gallery space for local organizations, individual artists, and the Station North Salon Show, as well as performance space for the Annex Theater Company, AKIMBO Dance Festival, and the ScapeScape 2013 Music Festival. These exhibitions and performances brought hundreds of people to this formerly vacant storefront, and have helped connect activity along the Charles Street and North Avenue corridors.
The renovation of the Station North Chicken Box was supported by a Station North Spruce Up Grant, The James & Carolyn Frenkil Charitable Foundation, and 192 Kickstarter Backers. Ziger/Snead Architects generously provided pro bono design services for the renovation of the Chicken Box.
